Apes Rule The World In ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ Super Bowl Trailer

Disney chose the high-profile platform of Super Bowl LVIII to unveil a brand new trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. As the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers clashed at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, Disney seized the moment to introduce fans to the next chapter of the beloved Planet of the Apes franchise, directed by The Maze Runner helmer Wes Ball.

Kingdom of The Planet of the Apes takes place several years after the last installment in the Planet of the Apes franchise, titled War for the Planet of the Apes. It seems as though this project is set to be a “soft reboot” for the franchise, with Andy Serkis not returning as the beloved Caesar in favor of a new lead, Noa, played by Owen Teague.

Who Else is Attached to the Next ‘Planet of the Apes’ movie?

Wes Ball, the man behind the Maze Runner trilogy from 20th Century Studios, is directing Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The film’s script was written by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa Amanda Silver, and Patrick Aison. Jaffa and Silver are also producing alongside Joe Hartwick Jr. and Jason Reed, with Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping serving as executive producers.

Owen Teague is spearheading the cast of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. The call sheet also includes Freya Allen, Peter Macon, Eka Darville, Kevin Durand, Travis Jeffery, Neil Sandilands, Sara Wiseman, Ras-Samuel Welda’abzgi, Lydia Peckham, William H. Macy, and Dichen Lachman.

The first film in the Planet of the Apes franchise was based on a novel by Pierre Boule. It was released in 1968 and followed Charlton Heston as an astronaut who crash-landed on a planet ruled by intelligent apes, only to discover he was actually on Earth several years after it had been devastated by a nuclear war. The highly successful film resulted in several Planet of the Apes sequels, a TV series, and a 2001 remake by Tim Burton before Fox rebooted the franchise with a trilogy that started with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes, featuring Andy Serkis.
