Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain wasn’t one to shy away from sharing his opinions, even if they were deemed controversial by some. This applied to Cobain’s views on different musicians in the industry. For instance, in a 1992 interview with Melody Maker, the frontman shared his dislike for Genesis’ Phil Collins.

Kurt revealed that even though there were many things he was on board with when it came to rock music, he named a few things that he would rather do without, one being the Genesis frontman Collins.

Here’s what Cobain had to say about Phil Collins:

“You know what I hate about rock? Cartoons and horns. I hate Phil Collins, all of that while male soul.”

The Nirvana frontman apparently developed deep-seated hate towards Collins since he followed up with his next words that read:

“I hate tie-dyed tee shirts, too. You know there are bootleg tie-dyed tee-shirts of Nirvana? I hate that. I wouldn’t wear a tie-dyed tee shirt unless it was dyed with the urine of Phil Collins and the blood of Jerry Garcia.”

Phil Collins isn’t the only musician that Kurt has strong negative feelings for, as the singer was known for his feud with Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose. The two musicians had shared their dislike for one another and their bands in various interviews over the years.

Everything between the rockers escalated when Rose made comments to Cobain’s wife, Courtney Love, and their child backstage at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards. Here’s how Kurt had recalled the incident that happened:

“You know, yesterday my wife and I were sitting in a tent at the MTV Music Awards. Axl Rose walked by us and we yelled at Axl, we said, ‘Axl, will you be the godfather of our child?’ And he stopped, turned around, pointed his finger my way, 20 bodyguards with him, and I had a little helpless child in my arms.”

Kurt went on to tell the rest of the story of what happened backstage; he added:

“So he said to my wife, ‘You better shut up bitch. Don’t pinch me to shit tonight.’… He looked at me and said, ‘You better keep your wife shut or I’m going to take you to the pavement.’ I was shaking, I went, ‘What? What are you going to do? Beat me up?’ And he said, ‘You better keep your wife’s mouth shut. You embarrass everybody, you embarrass your wife.’ I told my wife to, ‘shut up bitch!'[laughs]”
